A Chinese friend of mine offered to show me around some parts of Guiyang. One of the areas we visited is the oldest part of Guiyang. Nanming district. Like in every other place, you need a local to show you around. I'm in the fortunate position to know some locals who are willing to help me in my every day life and show me things and places.
A big thank you to you all!
The tour starts outside the Grand Theatre where I spend every Saturday night, listening to classical music, performed by the Guiyang Symphonic Orchestra. Some of the musicians are my friends and it is fantastic to see them on stage.
This is not the Rivers of Babylon (song by Boney M), but the Nanming River that runs through the city. The oldest part of town. Nanming District. The buildings are quite old and the area is very quiet. There is a hill in the middle of it with a park on top. As there are many government buildings in and around this area, it was and still is popular to civil servants. This is also the only area in Guiyang where the houses have heating. All the other places don't have heating provided. You need to buy your A/C or portable heaters yourself.
What looks like a cage, is a balcony. Locals usually don't use their balconies to sit on, have a cup of tea and enjoy the view, they use them as rooms. They have their washing machines out there and hang their clothes to dry.

Hello from the other side (Adele)
Stairway to heaven, err, to the park.
The top of the hill, with many traditional pavilions and people practising Tai-Chi.
No singing and dancing. A very popular pastime in China. People gather in squares and on the streets and sing and dance for hours. Will write about it another time.
Your litter please!
Local shop at the foot of the hill.
Police car
Hello Kitty. Notice the ears on the roof. You see many of them driving around.

That ugly looking bridge, is actually not ugly at all. It's the rainbow bridge. Have a look farther down.
Tea houses and pavilions.
And old bridges
Metropolis is nothing like this, shalala... Government building.
