Visitors

Morning in the office, colleague B and me working on lesson planning, both with our backs towards the window facing the corridor and listening to music on our headphones. Suddenly I notice a flashlight, like somebody taking a photo. Look up from my computer and see a second flashing in the room. Take my headphones down and ask my colleague if he's noticed it too, but he doesn't hear me. I then turn my head around towards the window to the corridor and look into many Chinese faces.
'We've got visitors!' I say to colleague B and stand up, but he still doesn't hear me.
I open the door and see almost two dozen Chinese smiling, waving their hands, taking photos of me and the office and greeting me with 'Ni Hao!' I step outside and one of our admin ladies approaches me and explains the situation. It's principals from other schools in Guiyang on a tour around our premisses. Apparently this is a common thing to do. Principals go around and visit other schools and get ideas for their own. I call colleague B and he comes out for a small photo session. We shake hands with most of the ladies and gentlemen and more or less all want to be photographed with us.
Here are two photos shot with my phone. Unfortunately I don't have more.

If you would like to read more by me, here are my novel and my diary from Ar'ar, in the northern Saudi desert. Both available on Amazon as soft and hard copy.
